If encryption is purchased, it must be AES, multi-key encryption. Encryption is required for all police and EMS radios. Encryption is recommended, but not required for fire radios. Without encryption, you will be unable to utilize the encrypted talk-groups built into the radio system. If you have encrypted your private talk-group, or ever have plans to encrypt, it is recommended that you purchase encryption.
